AASW Research

Research is key to the continued development of the theory and knowledge base of social work practice. AASW supports the undertaking of research as a key activity to build and maintain the mission of the social work profession.

Research is an essential area of social work practice and is included in the AASW Practice Standards for Social Workers, (section 4.3), highlighting its importance to social work practice. Social workers are expected to “understand the role of research and evaluation in obtaining and generating new knowledge for practice.” (AASW 2013)

Opportunities to advertise research with the AASW

The AASW is very keen to support research of both members and other professionals which contributes to the development of new knowledge and skills relevant to social work practice. The AASW advertises research to our members in fortnightly e-bulletins following review and approval by our National Research Committee.

Opportunities to participate in research - contributes to your CPD hours!

Access the below link for opportunities to participate in AASW approved research. Participation in research is seen as an activity which contributes significantly to the social work professions’ skill and knowledge base and can therefore be recorded as part of your annual CPD hours under category 3.
