World Social Work Day Breakfast

Connections were made at the AASW Victoria branch World Social Work Day breakfast this morning in Melbourne.
We heard from the Hon. Samantha Ratnam MP, a social worker and leader of the Victorian Greens.
She told her personal and professional story of being a refugee from the conflict in Sri Lanka and later working to help refugees. She also researched ‘Buen Vivir’ and its equivalent meaning among the Indigenous peoples of Central America, discussing its confluence with social work values and the Greens’ policies. Along with many questions answered, she thanked social workers for doing the work that they do.
Thanks, everyone!

Seeking Practice and Networking Group convenors

If you have 2-3 hours a month to spare and are passionate about social work in your community of practice (eg Mental Health, Private Practice) or state/territory perhaps you would like to consider starting a Practice or Networking Group. Not only will you be able to give back to your fellow social workers and your profession, but you could also help shape activities providing peer support and networking (Practice and Networking Groups) and category 3 professional development both online and in person (Practice Groups only).
