LIVE ONLINE WORKSHOP
Capability Level: Established & Expert
As we become more aware of the prevalence of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and gain a fuller appreciation of the experience of this unique and often difficult way of being, we’re also becoming aware of the similarities it shares with borderline personality disorder, leading to diagnostic uncertainty and sometimes less than optimal treatment and support for people with either or both conditions. BPD and ADHD are also, unfortunately, quite stigmatised, which further disadvantages people living with them, hampering their efforts to lead satisfying lives.
This workshop will provide social workers with an opportunity to learn about the latest understandings for both conditions, their treatment and several effective engagement techniques that consider the needs of people with BPD and ADHD. Through small group activities, you will also have the opportunity to share with other social workers your experiences and challenges when engaging people with BPD and ADHD, towards more effective practice and de-stigmatising these complex conditions, including approaches needed to engage and then maintain professional relationships with them, including repairing ruptures.
Who should attend?
This session is suitable for social workers with experience in mental health and disability fields who are looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in supporting people with BPD, ADHD or both and who would like to share their experiences, successes and challenges of working in this often challenging and rewarding context.
