The development of AASW's Advanced Supervision Program was a direct response to the recommendations put forth in recent Coronial reports, Royal Commission reports, and State Ombudsman reports. These reports underscored the critical necessity for advanced supervision within the realm of frontline social work and the inadequacies in quality supervision training and support.
Starting on 5 February 2024, this 6-week, evidence-based Advanced Supervision Learning Program has been thoughtfully designed with a blended learning methodology. The 20-hour program encompasses self-paced eLearning, online collaborative workshops, instructor-led Masterclasses, and Coaching Circles to provide a comprehensive learning experience. This program is tailored to the Mental Health sector.

Upon completion of the program, 20 hours of CPD activity: Category 2, skills and knowledge will be provided that can be linked towards AASW Supervisor and Mental Health CPD Goals

The program offers a combination of self-paced learning and facilitator-led sessions. The following program overview provides an outline of the entire learning journey, including the schedules for e-learning and the facilitator-led sessions conducted via Zoom. Please note that all session timings are based on the AEDT timezone. It's worth mentioning that all facilitator-led sessions will be recorded, with the exception of the two coaching circles (indicated in green).

This program will be facilitated by Carolyn Cousins.
Carolyn Cousins is a social worker and adult educator who has worked in the trauma (child protection / domestic violence) and mental health sectors in Australia and the UK. She has Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work, a Master of Education (Adult), and a Master’s in Applied Neuroscience.
Carolyn has published a number of articles and book chapters in relation to supervision and currently provides individual and group supervision to professionals in a range of fields.
