The development of AASW's Advanced Supervision Program was a direct response to the recommendations put forth in recent Coronial reports, Royal Commission reports, and State Ombudsman reports. These reports underscored the critical necessity for advanced supervision within the realm of frontline social work and the inadequacies in quality supervision training and support.
Starting on 7 May 2024, this 6-week, evidence-based Advanced Supervision Learning Program has been thoughtfully designed with a blended learning methodology. The 20-hour program encompasses self-paced eLearning, online collaborative workshops, instructor-led Masterclasses, and Coaching Circles to provide a comprehensive learning experience. This program is tailored to the Mental Health sector.

Upon completion of the program, 20 hours of CPD activity: Category 2, skills and knowledge will be provided that can be linked towards AASW Supervisor and Mental Health CPD Goals

The program offers a combination of self-paced learning and facilitator-led sessions. The following program overview provides an outline of the entire learning journey, including the schedules for e-learning and the facilitator-led sessions conducted via Zoom. Please note that all session timings are based on the AEST time zone. It's worth mentioning that all facilitator-led sessions will be recorded, with the exception of the two coaching circles (indicated in green).

This program will be facilitated by Tamara Laing.
Tamara is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker based in Hobart Tasmania. Over the course of her career, she has gained experience in various workplaces, including Government, Not-for-Profit, and most recently, private practice settings. She is an experienced therapist, trainer, leader, and clinical supervisor, with a particular focus on mental health, substance use, addictive behaviors, veterans, and trauma.
Tamara is passionate about the role of clinical supervision in social work and advocates for all mental health professionals, regardless of experience, to value, prioritise, and effectively engage in reflective practice and supervision. She is motivated to empower other Clinical Supervisors to feel confident in their supervisory roles and to build their knowledge and skills in the provision of clinical supervision.
Tamara offers a relaxed and friendly learning environment, where she draws upon and shares her own experiences of providing clinical supervision and working across various mental health practice settings. Aiming to bring this content to life, Tamara encourages participants to share their own practice wisdom and to support each other in their Clinical Supervisor journeys.
