This course provides an introduction to Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). It is presented by Anthony Hillin (B. Soc. Stud (SW), M Adol MH, IPT Certified Interpersonal Psychotherapy Trainer), a social worker and one of Australia's leading experts in IPT.
IPT is a brief, attachment-based intervention. More than 250 empirical studies support the efficacy and effectiveness of IPT for a variety of affective disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders, and for a wide range of clients from children to the elderly. IPT is recognised as an evidence-based intervention by many professional bodies including: Australia’s Better Access Medicare initiative, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in the UK and the International Cochrane Collaboration.
Whilst this course will not qualify you to deliver a complete IPT course of intervention, it will provide a sound overview of IPT tools, techniques and theory which may be immediately applicable to your clinical work. Registrants may also find IPT's focus on the 'interpersonal dimension' directly relevant to the range of therapeutic interventions already utilised in their practice.
"The transparent and collaborative nature of IPT is a perfect match for the ethics and values of the social work profession. IPT provides an evidence-based framework within which clinicians can utilise and build on many of their existing skills" - Anthony Hillin.
