We are delighted to have a collaborative presentation by Deb Franklin and Annette Barry, who will be talking about Support our ageing population with a Person Centred Approach and the new Aged Care Act and subsequent proposed Aged Care Reforms that are now on hold.
Meet our presenters:
Deb Franklin
Deb Franklin is employed by NSW Local Health District as MPS Network Social Worker covering Kyogle, Nimbin, Bonalbo and Urbenville and has been employed with MPS for over 5 years, working predominantly with older patients and residents of MPS Residential Age Care and their families. Prior to Deb's appointment with MPS she worked with Social Work team at Lismore Base Hospital and covered both Oncology and Renal Social Work positions. Deb studied at University of Tasmania (Bachelor Social Work) after completing Diploma Social & Community Services and was employed in Not for Profit, sector in range of roles as Family Support Worker and Personal Support Programme Case Manager before my employment with Commonwealth Rehab Service in Hobart then moving to Northern Rivers as Child and family Counsellor with Medicare Local in 2013. Deb's background primarily involved Case Management of clients and patients with Complex needs. Deb has a preference for working in rural communities and feel passionate about empowering older people to have a voice about issues which impact on their quality of life.
Annette Barry
Annette Barry works for the NNSW Health Richmond District as Clinical Nurse Consultant for Acute and complex aged care. Annette has an extensive background in residential aged care over the past 18 years with post graduate qualifications in Gerontology and Dementia and has worked for NSW Health in the Multi-Purpose sites coordinating long term care for 72 residents in total.
Annette has been working in the CNC position for the past 17 months and coordinates care with the Gerontologists at Lismore. In her current position, she assists families and older persons with behaviours and support plans,
With delirium management on the wards coordinating a multidisciplinary approach with different teams for the person, including social workers, ACAT, Residential care assistance with behaviour management, and education to patients, family and staff.
