How can social workers help to foster the parent/child connection when a child has experienced trauma?
The webinar will outline a narrative approach to facilitating purposeful (re)storying of trauma with a parent and child. We will discuss how to reduce and reframe the narrative of blame and shame around trauma experienced by a child by using parent-child narratives. As a social worker, you will learn how to hold a space for the parent and child to share their experiences, their hopes and their pain.
We will explore the principles of a narrative approach in parent-child therapy, focusing on the concept of Parallel Parent-Child Narratives (PPCN) and how to effectively apply this narrative framework when working with parents, caregivers, and children. We will examine how these narratives can illuminate the unique experiences and perspectives of both parents and children, ultimately enhancing their understanding of each other.
Who should attend?
This webinar will be for evolving or established social workers who would like to learn about using a narrative approach to working together with parents and children who have experienced trauma. Participants will learn practical techniques to promote collaboration and trust, empowering families to reframe their narratives and navigate trauma together.
