The AASW PhD Webinar Series Social Work Leaders: Celebrating Excellence Webinar Series
This exciting and dynamic webinar will take place on Tuesday the 3rd of September from 6:30pm to 8:00 pm AEST
Free for members, join us to celebrate three outstanding AASW Members who have elevated the social work profession through their research. Presenters will commence the session with an introduction to their work and findings and discuss how their research intersects with real world practice, as well as exploring their own career journeys and experiences from their PhDs and beyond.
This webinar will be chaired by Dr Louise Whitaker and audience members will hear her discussion with panellists Dr Elizabeth Davies, Dr Jane Miller and Dr Lisa Wojiechowski.

Chairperson:
Dr Louise Whitaker
Dr Louise Whitaker, Senior Lecturer, Social Work and Community Welfare, Southern Cross University teacher is a member of the AASW National Research Committee. Her research examines mental health social work practice and pedagogy. Before joining academia in 2010, she practiced in mental health, women's health, Legal Aid and cancer workforce development. Dr Whitaker is particularly interested in acknowledging and capturing practice wisdom through practice based social work research.

Dr Elizabeth Davies
Dr Elizabeth (Liz) Davies is an Accredited Mental Health Social worker, currently working in private practice. Liz has extensive practice and management experience in hospital and community-based health settings, justice, and education. Her clinical experience has been predominantly in the areas of trauma and ambiguous loss. Liz is foremost a practitioner, and it was her extensive practice led her undertake PhD research thirty years into her social work career. Her research examined the experience of young people and their carers living with the loss of a missing loved one. Liz is committed to supporting and promoting the professional excellence of social workers as mental health clinicians and lifelong learners. She is interested and committed to supporting social workers in trauma-informed practice, vicarious trauma, and managing the many demands inherent in our day-to-day work.
Jane Miller
Jane Miller is a retired social worker and life member of the Australian Association of Social Workers. She is the author of several books, including A Love of Truth and a Love of Service: The Social Work Legacy of Leonard Tierney (2019) and Leading Social Work: 75 Years at the University of Melbourne (2016). Her work appears in a range of print and online publications, including on the London School of Economics and Politics website. Jane contributed to the Royal Children’s Hospital history 150 Years of Caring (2021) and the Spoken Memories Project of the Australian Association of Social Workers and worked with the University of Melbourne Social Work Alumni on a series of oral histories, ‘Reflecting on Social Work Careers’ (2021).
Dr Lisa Wojciechowski
Dr Lisa Wojciechowski is a senior social work clinician with over 15 years’ experience working in clinical and leadership roles in a broad range of sectors including HIV, health, mental health, drug and alcohol, and health promotion both within tertiary health and community-based settings. Lisa’s doctoral research explored the experiences and psychosocial support needs of young people living with HIV. Lisa’s other research interests are concerned with improving the wellbeing of marginalised communities through applied research that bridges the gap between academic knowledge and its practical application in community and service settings. Lisa currently holds the position of Life+ Program Manager at Queensland Positive People.
