Join us for a panel discussion unveiling the impact of social workers in workplaces and organisations, and the places you might find us.
At this webinar you will hear from Kerriann Dear, a trailblazer in occupational and industrial social work.
Kerriann will lead a dynamic panel discussion exploring work-related areas where social workers can be highly impactful.
Supporting injured workers
Michelle Turton from WorkCover Queensland will outline the importance of good case management in helping people get back to work and discuss the value that social work expertise can bring to injured worker care (both within an organisation such as WorkCover and as an external accredited AMHSW provider).
Championing workplace rights
Sarah Atkinson, Special Counsel from Maurice Blackburn Lawyers will discuss combating workplace injustices. From bullying and harassment to discrimination and unfair dismissal, learn how advocacy for workplace rights fosters healthier and more equitable workplaces.
Sarah has over 25 years of experience representing injured people in compensation claims both, in the UK and in Queensland, and has the expertise to deal with the most complex and serious of cases. She has particular expertise in brain injuries and catastrophic injuries and has negotiated many multi-million dollar settlements, including several over $10 million.
Sarah also enjoys using her experience to assist other lawyers and to advocate for changes in the law when it is needed. She is a particular advocate for the rights of women and was awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award by the Queensland Law Society in 2015 for her contributions to the legal profession and the community, particularly in relation to women’s rights.
Psychosocial safety at work
The panel will highlight some of the key aspects of the emerging regulatory framework around psychosocial safety at work and how social workers can add value and promote their skills to organisations (including their own workplaces) to optimise wellbeing at work.
Participants will have a clearer understanding of social worker roles and career paths in supporting injured workers and in workplace rights advocacy.
The webinar encourages reflection on the broader societal implications of social work interventions in occupational settings, emphasising the potential for systemic change and social justice advocacy beyond practice with individuals.
