Australia's peak social workers' association appoints first Aboriginal president

The Australian Association of Social Workers has appointed Bigambul woman Linda Ford as the first Indigenous president in the association's history.

Ms Ford brings experience and expertise to her new role, having served on the Association (AASW) Board since 2017, demonstrating "strong leadership and a deep commitment to social work", the organisation said on Wednesday.

Muriel Wymarra appointed as board director at Australian Association of Social Workers

The Australian Association of Social Workers has appointed its first Torres Strait Islander woman as a board director.

Muriel Wymarra, who was born and raised in Gimuy (Cairns), joins a remarkably diverse all-female board at AASW, becoming the fourth woman on the board with a First Nations background and the first of Torres Strait Islander culture.
