Volunteer with the AASW

The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) engages with 300 – 400 AASW member volunteers across Australia, who all contribute to the Association’s operations in a variety of ways. Our members who volunteer time to support AASW are instrumental in the delivery of services to our members and in being a voice for the social work profession.

There are currently six different AASW volunteering bodies for members to be involved in:

Branch Level

The Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) has nine branches throughout Australia. Each AASW Branch enables members to participate in and benefit from the professional communities in their region.

Branch Management Committees

Practice Groups are a forum for social workers operating in different areas of practice or in specific regions to share common practice issues, provide expertise and develop workshops and other events.

Volunteer Practice Groups

Networking Groups are a less formal forum for social workers operating in different areas of practice or in specific regions to meet and share common practice issues.

National Level

Members of the Editorial Board are responsible for ensuring that the Australian Social Work Journal is a high quality and internationally recognised social work publication that is produced in accordance with the strategic directions of the AASW Board of Directors.

The National Research Committee (NRC) provides leadership, coordination and strategic focus to research that promotes the mission of the AASW. The NRC assists in the development, maintenance and review of policies and procedures.

The Ethics Council participates in the AASW Ethics Complaints Management Process by making decisions on misconduct cases, ensuring that cases comply with AASW By-Laws and by monitoring all remedial actions arising from the process.
